Israel used civilian aircraft as cover to attack Syria: Russian MoD

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:20 P.M.) – Israel used a civilian aircraft as cover to carry out airstrikes against the Syrian military in western Damascus, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday.

“It is noteworthy that the airstrikes were again carried out by the Israeli aviation using ‘as a cover’ civilian jets, which were about to land at the airports of Damascus and Beirut,” the ministry said, as quoted by the Tass News Agency.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) denied threatening any civilian planes in Lebanon and Syria, despite the accusations from Damascus and Moscow.

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense accused the Israeli Air Force of using their IL-20 reconnaissance aircraft for cover during their attack on western Syria in mid-September.

As a result of this Israeli attack, the Russian military announced that they would be arming Syria with their S-300 air defense system.

The S-300 was delivered to Syria on October 1st; it has since been installed in the western region of the country.
