Israel on Sunday sent a 130 police officer and military mission to Brazil to assist in the search for missing people after the collapse of the dam near the town of Bromadino in Minas Gerais state, southeast Brazil.
The Brazilian press said the operation was coordinated by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu called the Brazilian president yesterday and offered him to send Israeli aid to the area immediately, and Netanyahu declared that "the Brazilian president thanked him and accepted the offer."
Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adre'i said the mission "consisted of 130 officers and soldiers in regular service and reserve from the Home Front Command and carried special equipment to find and rescue the missing."
The Brazilian president, after inspecting the affected area by helicopter, said that Netanyahu telephoned him on Saturday to offer him assistance in search and rescue operations and said he accepted the offer.
Brazilian newspapers reported that the Israeli team specializes in rescue operations during disasters, and will use sonar and sniffer dogs to search for the missing persons.
A muddy land has buried the area around the dam site, killing at least 34 people and losing some 300 others, according to the fire department of the state where the accident occurred, and about 150 people were rescued and taken to safe areas.
